The pre-release launch of Total TypeScript with our partner @[email protected] generated almost 1300 sales and over $400k in gross revenue in about a week

We've been working for a few years on a repeatable process for these products, and this is our best work yet at @[email protected]

I wrote about The Process πŸŒ€ we used if you'd like to read more details of the story https://badass.dev/launch-of-a-developer-education-product

The "well done!" made me laugh. Thanks ChatGPT, you've always been so supportive.

my hope with this thread is that you might read it and think "oh shit, I could do that!"

because it's true!

my goal with @[email protected] is to share what works for us and the processes we use

if you're wondering what the ceiling is for a standalone self-paced non-subscription developer education product is...

we've broken the eight figure mark on other similarly shaped products!

it's a huge market hungry for high-quality effective expert level learning products πŸŒ€

@joelhooks Still trying to figure out how this applies to much more niche (and high-end) learning products, such as my "Refactoring to Hexagonal Architecture". I simply don't know how large the addressable market is.

@jitterted "how big is the grapefruit"

systems design is a huge market, scale it back the more filters you put on it

@joelhooks I'd say it's much narrower than "system design" (depending on how one interprets "system").

It's all about testability and organization of [Java] code in a single repo, but I'm not sure that's getting across. We'll see when I re-open sales.

Total TypeScript does give me confidence in my pricing, tho.

@jitterted ya it is definitely narrower, you filtered it down to a pinpoint from what i've seen which is great from a marketing and messaging standpoint if you have the ear of devs dancing on the head of the pin!

@jitterted Your stuff would have broader appeal too, it's very good from the public stuff I've watched

I haven't researched addressable market so the above is lookie lou perception

@joelhooks Yah. It's aimed at Java folks, but I get a lot of PHP and Python folks. I hope to translate it to TypeScript one of these days. 😁
@jitterted I thought it was interesting in a serverless context more specific language, not that JS isn't a good bet generally and TS probably makes it sensible.
@joelhooks The exercises are the biggest challenge for me to do in other languages. The concepts apply across the board, but that's not enough for an in-depth course. (It is enough for a free webinar and conference talk, which I've done.)
@jitterted sounds like a situation where a "franchise" might make sense partnering with experts in compatible ecosystem where you don't have specific. implementation expertise but concepts and core would translate
@joelhooks Oh yeah, partnering to do exactly that is on my list to try again in 2023.
@jitterted the franchise approach makes a ton of sense
@joelhooks thanks inspiring even for someone who doesn’t Coke much anymore
