To what extent are you hoping the influx of new users on #mastodon leads to a lot of sharing of news links? Or to what extent would you like it to be just people engaging with one another based on a variety of interests? #MastodonMigration #conversation #dialogue

@bernicecbc i am just one person. I am leaving twitter because they are blocking journalists, and are purposefully engaging in the rage machine.

I want people engaging, but I also want to read trusted sources.

I was on Twitter to follow news.

When they suspend journalists they don't agree with?
Here i am. Here you are.

We need trustworthy sources. Not man-babies throwing a fit cause of bad press.

@bernicecbc I would like a combo of news links and engaging with others. One of the reasons I hesitated to join Mastodon was that I didn't want to be limited in interacting with a wide variety of people. #mastodonmigration

@bernicecbc I do like more news links, but I'm more interested in how people interact with those news links. Maybe there are patterns of omissions and inclusions that people are picking up on, and I want to enjoy those observations.

I think at some point the math works against all of us possibly interacting with each other at once. I'm looking for community with people who want to poke and pick at the news and material in a reasoned way.

@bernicecbc
I enjoy a good news feed, so I never mind shared articles and links. I appreciate being introduced to stories that I would not otherwise have come across... There seems to be a nice mix of news and discussion here.
@bernicecbc I like to see both social interacton and shared content (including but not limited to news), and the balance I want shifts over time and should be manageable through who I follow, who mute, and what filters I have applied. Right now I think I'm looking for maybe 60/40 interaction/shared content. But I'd also say I'm still sort of settling in here too, and I find the social interaction more informative for learning how I relate to this platform.
@dabblecode Yes! I’m a newcomer, too, & I’m eager to learn. I’ve found the #MastodonTips hashtags to be so helpful. And @mastodonmigration is a wonderful source of info. It’s about learning to live in my new “neighborhood.”

@bernicecbc

A new site offers an opportunity to to start fresh. My attempt to start fresh is not to react to as many shared news stories as I once did. Otherwise I am just replicating my activities that I once responded to on the the other site. I wish to be more reflective and less reactionary by creating a new experience and partake in a variety of interests,
