Just in case you happen to be interested in tracking the location on Elon Musk's jet, you can find it on Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@elonjet

@evacide

or just in case you're interested... do this work yourself,

also, if that info is so public why does it require quite a bit of work to get to it?

and then there's the ownership of the plane, is that also public information ? I honestly don't know this, so I'm asking.

How does one find out who owns what plane ?

People should also take this into account, when insisting that this is not doxing.

This is just another example of someone building software without caring about the consequences of that software...

which sounds exactly like the kind of software you Eva, would have complained about, but now because it affects the guy you hate, you're all of the sudden blind to the privacy concerns...

@clauz Doxing is a safety concern. How exactly do you envision that knowing the location of a billionaire's private jet will enable a physical attack on the billionaire?

@evacide

first off, it's a principles thing, you're either against doxing or for doxing, there's no in between just because the doxed person is powerful,

if we start making exceptions, where do we stop? You're certainly more powerful than I am, would it be ok for me to dox the real time location of your car ?

@evacide

as for your question, doxing someone's private jet can help determine a pattern to someone's travels, allowing people to wait for you at the airport and tail your car until they find an opportunity to harm you, or they just might get lucky and find someone with less protection, say a family member.

should we not consider that a safety concern ?

@clauz How exactly is this person going to identify the right car leaving the airport?

@evacide

I don't know what point you are trying to make 🤔 are we pretending, it's impossible to spot someone in a car leaving an airport ?

this is going to sound silly, but you know paparazzi exist ? yes ? They manage it just fine.

especially if they know when and where that someone will be.

for example, it seems to have been easy enough here...

@clauz If you're going to conflate taking a photo with a physical attack, I don't think we have any reason to continue this conversation.

@evacide
is that what I was doing ? sorry,
I really thought I was pointing out that other people have managed to identify the car at the airport, so it's not far fetched that someone else intending to do harm can do the same.

I must have misspoke somewhere.. if it came across as conflating...

@clauz My argument is not about whether or not harm is possible. Many things are possible. My argument is about whether or not harm is LIKELY.

@evacide and why wouldn't it be likely ?

if you know where someone will be, and you can identify and tail the car from the airport..

what would make it unlikely at this point to say... ram the car of the road ? or do exactly what musk said happened to his kid ?

and let's say it is unlikely, why does that matter ? do we afford privacy to people based on how likely it is for them to be harmed ?

@evacide
look, we're obviously not going to see eye to eye on this, you don't seem to want to apply the same standards to this issue because it's musk and his rich and powerful, but I do have 2 more questions though, if you would be so kind as to answer.

@evacide
1. in light of the new information that has come out about the plane being in the FAA PIA program, do you still believe it was public information and it's not doxing ?

2. when you dub a software "stalkerware" what is the definition you use to define it as such ?

@clauz

1. I never said whether or not I thought it was doxxing. In fact, I specifically said that I didn't think that was the most important question.

2. Stalkerware is commercially available software that is designed to be covertly installed on another person's device in order to exfiltrate data from that device without the owner's knowledge.

@evacide

to your 1:
sorry, I guess I assumed you believe it's public info, since you shared the link to the tracker on twitter, but would you be willing to say if you believe either way ?

to your 2:
thanks for the definition, I was thinking it might fit the tracker bot, since it's bypassing some privacy protections, flimsy as they may be, in order to make location info public, but I see that it doesn't fit, guess it's not "stalkerware"

thanks for replying 👍
