One of the biggest gripes I’m seeing of Mastodon is:

“BUT THE MESSAGES AREN’T END TO END ENCRYPTED, WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!111one”

I don’t know about you but I don’t send anything through Mastodon messages which needs to be 100% secure?

Nobody wants to hack into your messages so they can see you saying to a friend “omg did you see the latest Desperate Housewives of Clungeville”

WhatsApp is right there if you need it, you don’t need EVERY app to have EVERY functionality…

@gearlicious I’ll be honest I don’t know the details of different messaging apps, I tend to stick with telegram and not bother or look into others, my point is just there are already apps for exactly what people need, Mastodon doesn’t need to do EVERYTHING, it just needs to be good at what it is

@PupKai Telegram and Signal are ever so slightly more trustworthy than WhatsApp for good encryption, in my opinion. But it's definitely a step up from non encrypted.

@RubberKai yeah, it’s whatever app you prefer really, but it’s silly for people to shit on Mastodon when there are plenty of other encrypted ways to communicate
