@jentaub On what is (probably) a final note, while my understanding is that Mastodon was founded in part by and for people who are #queer and #lgbtq, they and the culture they established are or are in danger of being sidelined. Perhaps we have to think about both preservation and reformation as Mastodon continues to grow, I hope.

@billday @jentaub

How do you see that culture being sidelined?

@bakumshakum @jentaub I would prefer to let members of of the community speak to the issue, and I hope they will. However, I think, for example, the battle over when to use a CW and when to post directly is indicative of people’s differing sensibilities, sense of respect, and need for safe spaces. I am not entirely sure where I come out, but I think issues of sensitivity, respect, and acknowledgment of others’ differences need to be addressed.

They (the mysterious ineffable "they") didn't do a great job describing CW IMHO. I tell people it's a "consent wrapper" - it's value-neutral; it doesn't say your content is *bad* - it just allows people to Affirmatively Consent to viewing your content, whatever it is.
