This company allows anyone to do a demo of what it is like to take a remote proctored test with their product https://proctoredu.com/demo I will admit I couldn't even get to the test because I couldn't bring myself to allow the application the level of access it wanted to my computer
Pass the test and detect violations | ProctorEdu

Take the quiz with proctoring in 5 minutes by connecting a camera with a microphone.

I also learned of a new feature/rule: there is an option from the instructor side to require a student's phone be used to watch them, because it can be positioned in a way to view the areas of the desk that the laptop webcam can't.

@sarahesilverman So in addition to the invasive surveillance, the company will require access to multiple student devices?

And everyone will just have to trust that the company—and every single person who works for it, or who otherwise gains access to their data—won't do the sorts of harmful things enabled by correlating data points between devices?

Yikes.

@ryanrandall yep that seems to be what is asked of the students!

@sarahesilverman Yuck.

Thank you for raising awareness about it!

@sarahesilverman this is a vile - and poor - piece of software. We were required to use it, precisely once, before the wave of complaints forced the institution to withdraw it. It is pernicious in intention, use, and application. A plague upon their house.
