While the decentralized architecture of Mastodon is cool, admirable, and great nerd fun... oof it's painful to watch someone you know sign up and try to figure things out here. The simple task of following whom other key people follow is a total minefield.

Getting the sense that for better or for worse, the nerd quotient will remain extremely high among denizens of the fediverse (which yes, sounds tautological, heh.)
