I would recommend using a few hashtags for your post to be found over the whole fediverse.

Also note that the DM's on mastodon can be read by the admins of the server. So not truly confidential.

@SamFerguson Our main admin is @jaz I believe they were taking note and forming a list of all "professionals" and "companies" that are using the server.

I believe it was maybe to provide a little bit of our own verification. You may want to be apart of that.

But I could be completely wrong. So don't quote me on this! I'm still new too.

'Tis true that administrators of servers can read things on said servers (DMs are not confidential on any social network, Twitter can read your DMs, too) but if you need help with private messaging I recommend https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/03/secure-messaging-more-secure-mess

And as for abuse of power, check out Mr. Elon Musk, he has blocked anyone from linking to toot.wales as we are now - apparently - a competitor.

@jaz @SamFerguson It wasn't a criticism of here but more a heads up, people are much more aware about privacy here. Some would maybe want that extra anonymity.

If anything Musk has proved that sensitive info on that place is no longer safe either.

@SamFerguson Welcome to mastodon Sam, you’re on one of the best servers at toot.wales. Tip get a profile picture up, and a link in your profile to the beeb so people know you are a journalist. Perhaps add an email address so people can email Welsh news stories to you they may not brave enough to post about. Also put a few relevant hashtags in your profile and follow hashtags of interest to you.
