Here are the journalists banned today from Twitter for reporting on Musk. Some have Mastodon accounts, as noted. Feel free to add new accounts below.

I would like to see their news orgs respond with backbone, & swiftly, to support a democratic free press by establishing servers/instances on Mastodon & exiting Twitter until Musk publishes standards that ensure journalists do not have to submit to his use of arbitrary power in order to publish there

@chargrille @murshedz @WalterShaub CNN responded and demanded an explanation as to why Donie Sullivan and others were suspended. They said they’re going to reevaluate their relationship with Twitter in light of this.

I saw. While it’s a pretty good response & much stronger than The NY Times, that is not the strong line in the sand we need to see from the Fourth Estate. The should remove themselves until there is a satisfactory commitment in writing from this oligarch that ensures protections from his future power/ego trips.

@MarcyRW otherwise it’s going to stay a manipulated and heavily one-sided informational space that is genuinely not safe for their readers to get info from. It’s the news orgs ceding power to him to set terms of reporting.
@MarcyRW I think we all know that this is all Twitter is ever going to be under Musk’s increasingly authoritarian rule as CEO. I would have some respect for the news orgs that are able to acknowledge reality.

"Elon Musk ownership of Twitter creates serious problems for #journalists who rely on the site for developing sources, finding stories, and driving readership. It’s not safe to do journalistic business on the platform anymore." https://cjr.org/podcast/the-tow-centers-emily-bell-musks-twitter-is-openly-hostile-to-journalists-what-should-we-do.php via @cjr

It's time for the US Federal government to exit Twitter. It cannot publish on a censorship/disinformation channel.
