I want to get better @Mastodon...like really quickly.
@aniruddha0808 I’ve only been here six weeks, but lately that seems to make me a veteran. Ha! So if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I may have had to figure that particular thing out myself too. Good luck!
@KatMA thanks much! First of all, how to have a .party & a .social and use both seamlessly?
@aniruddha0808 Depending on the app or laptop you are using, you have the option of three different feeds or timelines: home, local, and federated. I’ve never really used federated but should probably figure it out. 🙂
So, the local feed/timeline is stuff posted on your server, most recent first. I almost never use it
If you go to the home feed/timeline, you can create a personalized feed. Use the search function to find some ppl you like, find cool ppl in their responses, follow ppl you like
@aniruddha0808 I started off looking for people to follow and not worrying about followers. That meant I had an interesting feed to read. The more you respond to posts and follow commenters, the better your feed/timeline gets. If you stay in home timeline/feed, you won’t notice which server ppl are on very often
@aniruddha0808 Occasionally, you will want to follow someone who is in the Fediverse but not on Mastodon (ask me later what that means if you don’t know yet). In that case, you may have to do an extra step to follow them. I *think* it involves cutting/pasting their address, but I don’t remember because it was easy and I forget details when I don’t need to remember them (sorry)
@aniruddha0808 did that make any sense?
@aniruddha0808 a and I’m pretty sure I didn’t answer your question now that I look at it again. Please tell me if I should delete this. Sorry if so!
@KatMA no s don't delete. These are all details I may have asked in the future. So thanks already! I'll just have to go through your messages one more time, to actually understand.
@aniruddha0808 I wrote quickly, so please ask if at all unclear. And there are many more experienced Mastodonians than me around too 🙂
