CS@Mason Now Ranked #36 in Influential Rankings of Computer Science Departments | George Mason Department of Computer Science

The George Mason University Computer Science Department is celebrating its continued and rapid growth, as our recent accomplishments have solidified our place as one of the top programs in the country.

@EmadAghayi isn't csrankings in particular super sensitive to size of department?

@jbigham @jbigham, you are right. We expected that. It seems it counts the number of papers from each department. It could be better.

I remember last there was a massive discussion about CsRanking on Twitter. I guess @pg was also involved in that debate.

At the end I concluded yea CsRankings has serious issue but we do not have any alternative for it.

Why I Don't Recommend CSRankings.org: Know the Values You are Ranking On

Just because a ranking is computable doesn't mean that it's right.

@EmadAghayi I think the problem is that any ranking builds in a set of editorial decisions, which are subjective and not everyone will agree with. even an "open source" ranking like csranking still presents a default view, which is what people will go off of.

I'm personally annoyed that I do not count toward CMU (despite having ~7 phd students, being phd director, occasionally teaching, etc) because I also have a positions at Apple.

@jbigham ah. I did not know that. It is weird.
