I ges the movie »Snakes on a Plane« is the sequel to this the same way »Aliens« is the sequel to »Alien«.

»In such simple actions does Fate show her hand.«

I don’t know, maybe somehow the rope Biggles just grabbed might come in handy later. Probably not, tho.

»With cheerful smiles and the thrill of the treasure-hunt upon them, they strode off gaily in the direction of the cave.«

Oh, right. They ar even less archeologists than Indiana Jones is. The story is basically »I hav found proof of Inca activity east of the Andes, so we will go there and grab some gold.« Maybe they want to give some to the British Museum later?

»a good-sized concave hole«
Not a flat hole or convex hole, mind yu!

Hmpf. I don’t know what’s a cheaper literary trick: conveniently timed #earthquakes doing convenient damage, or convenient #lottery wins.
In this book, they don’t play the lottery, is what i’m saying. But #Heinlein did cheat when he used that to give #Friday some money.

"(...) treasure literally worth a king's ransom"
Yeah, yeah. It's fine. Merriam-Webster lists "virtually" as one meaning of "literally".

🤔 Wait, they *did* try to load gold that the Inca wanted to use to get their ruler out of Spanish captivity.
*That* "literally".
