And why wouldn't they? The GOP doesn't care if erecting new barriers to voting hurts their own voters so long as they hurt Democrats more.

I suspect the reason for covid/vaccine denial and opposition to public mandates is that if they agreed that covid is a national threat then universal healthcare and free vaccines would be a responsible policy to embrace; those cost money;and that would make taxing billionaires a requisite.
Additionally if they agreed covid was a national threat then social distancing, covid sick leave, etc would be logical and those would interfere with corporate labor and sales needs.
Republicans are the waterboys for billionaires and corporations. Their puppet masters tell them what to do, and dont care if people die as long as they make money.

@TomSullivan Though I think there is some truth to this, you also have to factor in that Dems are younger and Reps tend to be older. And older people die more often. Stats are never a simple answer.
