The key thing about Jack's post re: protocols is that it's not about the protocol. In some ways, it never was.

The hard part is identity, and always was. Twitter's power is in the Users table, and the fact that none of us could ever escape it. It's the reason verification was always such a big deal, and why decentralized moderation is so difficult.

With decentralized but *also* usable identity, we can all use many protocols.

SMTP got it wrong, because the identity was tied to the protocol.

@blaine
Have you talked identity with @sheldrake?
He’s got many thoughts here, and on other pages of this site:

https://generative-identity.org/web3s-future-fail-is-avoidable/

The problem is, and likely was, that trying to solve human problems with tech solutions doesn’t work, and results in unintended consequences.

Identity is foundational human problem, so any technology supporting it must have a robustly #SociotechnicalStack

Web3's future #fail is avoidable

The point of failure is precisely where Web3 technology meets you and me. We must change our approach, not just to avoid failure, but to fully explore and expand the gifts of being human.

Generative Identity

@christina @sheldrake I have not, but I think we're very much on the same page. 😊

My main contribution to the fediverse was webfinger and banging the "if it's not usable for people, especially the identity piece and the implications thereof, then it's not usable and there's no point doing it."

Pretty excited about a new bit of work – builds on a lot of new things that have emerged, and is extremely people-centric in its construction.

More soon!

@blaine @sheldrake

Look forward to hearing more!

Thanks Christina. Always happy to swap notes Blaine :-)
