@davetroy I’m frankly not sure how one would even attempt to enforce debt at this level of geopolitics. The worst I can think of right now is that USA wouldn’t be able to take on any more debt, plus an extreme period of minimal government while GOP bunkers down and stalls.
Maybe the problem for some people (myself included) is scale; The Great Depression sounded catastrophic, but no book or documentary can even begin to convey the true horror of living through it.
