"Imagine, if you will, a future in which ultra high net-worth clients meet legless avatars of private bankers from private jets; where retail customers get to queue in cyber space to speak to a low-poly adviser about their mortgage difficulties; in which job interviews look like something out of The Lawnmower Man."

@pluralistic One thing that bugs me about this stuff: everyone makes fun of the crappy graphics, and that's fair, but even if the graphics were super-advanced & realistic, there's still no good answer to the question: what purpose does this serve? How does it make my experience with (banking, shopping, work meetings, whatever) any better or more efficient?
@ehattswank @pluralistic Seems far more tedious than just using an online banking website on a computer or a smartphone app. Also a11y is shitty since VR headsets aren't exactly suitable for persons with visual and motor difficulties. Whereas you have screen readers and alternate input methods with other devices.
@psychxr @pluralistic I know almost nothing about VR, but i can totally imagine using it for, say, exploring an imaginary castle or flying over the Alps ... but these businesses don't seem to realize that most of us just want to get our interactions with them over with as quickly & painlessly as possible. (To say nothing of work meetings!)
