hings I only learned today: for most relevant purposes, Malagasy national ID cards are considered expired after 20 years and must be renewed.

Things I did today: showed up at the bank with an ID card from September 2002.

Anyway, it’s hilarious. Apparently, most people never have to deal with their card expiring, because most people lose their card before the 20-year mark and need to renew it long before then.

I’m a rare special case for having been way too careful with my card, ell-oh-ell.

More funny things: my current ID is so old that the occupation field still reads “STUDENT” (I had just graduated from high school and was just about to join university).

Now I finally have the perfect occasion to update that part of my ID.

@kamiten “Illustrator” should work fine. I’ve been writing that down on bank forms for a little while anyway.
