ā€œThe House just passed an atrocious $858 BILLION in annual defense spending. That's $45B more than Biden even asked for. Health care? "We can't afford it." Child tax credit? "Too expensive." Defense spending? "Here I just found an extra $45 billion dollars laying around."ā€

@rbreich Eisenhower was right. The MIC tail wags the dog.
@rbreich Putin basically threatening nuclear war might have something to do with this.
@rbreich haven’t they come up short on recent audits? Did someone find a way to skim money?
@rbreich what else is new. There is no money to lift people out of poverty or provide universal healthcare, but guns and ammo will never suffer!

@rbreich

Good. No amount of money is enough to defend from next war with China

@rbreich

Besides, if we discount inflation, 858 billion is actually the same money than this year's defense budget.

@rbreich isn't a huge amount in there for Ukraine support since with a GOP House it becomes difficult to apportion money for their support?
@rbreich We do NOT follow links to twitr..!!
@rbreich Because every state has a business and/or military base that gets some of the defense budget. Congress does not want to jeopardize the dollars for their states.
@rbreich at the expense of not providing enough funding to public education, healthcare including dental and vision, support for the elderly, parental leave and support for childcare…
