Seeing a lot of people here getting shitty for people continuing to use both Masto and Twitter. How about…you make you own decisions about how you like to social media, and let others do the same hmmm? You have no idea what important connections people have in each space. There doesn’t have to be battle lines drawn up over this. 🙄🙄

@colourpurplegal

I miss a lot of nice people from the dark side. Do not miss the content snark though. Do not miss that one bit.

@ewen did you shut down entirely? I’m using both. I stay huddled in my locked account and talk to friends, I don’t want to lose that.

@colourpurplegal

I just walked away and didn't even lock the door behind me! It all happened in the middle of travelling, so I was already taking a holiday from it at the time. I decided to remove the app from my home screen, and already had notifications turned off anyway.

The difference is so stark though. I see a few accounts here still trying to post clickbait and I just immediately block them. I just want somewhere nice to hang out online... Because so many of my favourite people live too far away!

@ewen I don’t find it too stark if I stay locked, I unlocked for half a day and that was dire.

@colourpurplegal

Move to Melbourne and I can offer you in person snark that can dial back to the level you need as required :)

@ewen Haha!! Coukd still be on the cards one day, you never know. I’m due a visit, I know that much.

@colourpurplegal Good call. Twitter wasn't so important to me, just a few close friends so easy to leave and keep in touch using other means. I'd struggle to leave FB as it connects my family across the world..as much as I hate FB, it is important to me.

I'm happy to let others use their own judgement for what best suits them

@chestas Yes exactly. I’ve made SO many friends on Twitter, they don’t all want to move here for their own reasons. Musk doesn’t care if people leave so why cut off your nose I say. And I’d never leave FB for the exact same reasons as you even though I don’t post much there.
@colourpurplegal @YourSecondDraft As long as they don’t auto-crosspost from T to here, that is truly annoying.
@colourpurplegal I don't want to give up Birdchan, however the new owner is making it very difficult to justify staying.

@colourpurplegal I see people apologising for dual posting Twitter content here and I... don't get it.

I'm not here for exclusive Mastedon content. I'm here because I enjoyed Twitter but wasn't up for Musk's version of it.

Post. Objecting to content simply because it's available somewhere else would seem precious?

@SyndicateMember double posting doesn’t bother me at all, just skim past it. The objections I see aren’t just about that though, apparently we are meant to take a stand against Twitter but I object to being told what to think or do. I have friends there and I’m not going to stop communicating with them because an asshole bought it.
