This is an 81 year old scientist and physician. He and his family have had death threats for close to three years and needed Secret Service protection. 3/
I don't care what you think of the man, but the idea that Elon Musk, thug and right wing oligarch can amp up hate directed towards one man is evil. It just is. 4/
Put that into the context of the racist, antisemitic, homophobic hate unleashed on Twitter over the past few months and you can see that Elon Musk loves this, this monetizing of hate, it arouses him, it gets him going. 5/
From Trump to Musk, and the lesser demagogues like DeSantis, we're in deep trouble in this country. What is being unleashed is not going to end well. 6/
We all need to push back on all of this before it's too late. end/

I'm reminded of a convo I had years ago with my father, when he questioned the point of protest.
I said, and still believe, that resistance can't be all direct action (for the bold), electoral work and lobbying (for the rest of us). Because all that is important, but it isn't self-sustaining.
There has to be yelling, and dancing, and rage, and joy. And lots and lots of music.

Yesterday, I deleted Twitter from my iPad so that I don’t doomscroll each evening. It has give me more time to interact with more thoughtful people both off and online. It feels like such a small thing to do, but it’s what I can do at the moment.

Twitter acct. 1 wk. later, I felt better emotionally than I had in a long time. As individuals, the best thing to do immediately is to leave platforms that allow hate & never purchase anything from companies who support them. Hopefully Gregg will share some more info on what we as individuals collectively can do. 😊

This has also included ending 2 relationships- my now former best friend & my only sibling. One spewing election denial/conspiracy theories/the other a White Nationalist who vomits hatred for those who aren't white.

Yes it's evil, he gets off on it, and it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. We do need to push back.
But we shouldn't be doing that on twitter. Anyone who's survived an abusive relationship knows the only thing that works is grey rock / no contact. We should be organizing here and depriving him of oxygen there. The quicker we all disappear, the sooner he turns on his (current) inner circle.
Just look at how Trump is withering now that all eyes are on Elon.

Bonus, you can use Advanced Search syntax to retrieve what you need from your own Twitter feed.
I can't delete mine because it's got too much evidence of the #COVID19 #disinformation campaigns from 2021. It's ironclad proof Twitter is responsible for the #pandemic not being over, and in fact, now being unstoppable.

I didn't realize you could look up specific people by username. (deleted my acct a month ago before migration tools started to be commonly used and have people I've wanted to look up to see if they've moved anywhere.)

When I read M Scott Peck's _People of the Lie_ years and years ago, I hated all the religious allegory, and the whole concept of evil seemed laughable to my atheist self. But these last few years, I've had to reconsider my feelings about the existence of irredeemable monsters.
@kims I am a devout atheist too! But evil--based on an ethical framework untied from religion, can exist and has throughout history.

Medical care and vaccines to prevent disease were rarely opposed in decades past until Trump painted a target on anyone who didn’t join in on his crazy conspiracy theories. Further, Musk is an inciter of grievances and a chaos agent whose seeks the effect of his message as much as the result to boost his ego and the MAGA cult is the perfect target audience.
