Fun times this afternoon at the Pratt Center in Seattle - Sharron and I took the 1 day intro to woodturning class and it was a huge amount of fun.

Would recommend to anyone.

@larryosterman "Would recommend to anyone." Oh, wood you now?

I've watched so many videos of lathes, my uncle's work was featured in a magazine once (he does a lot of lathing), and I have two separate friends with lathes and I still have yet to try it. Sounds like a fun project for this long holiday I started last week.

@larryosterman Was the device powered by Windows 3.x? Because it sure looks like it judging from the casing haha.

Looks great. Will you be using that to make pesto and such?

@martijnbrant Actually the lathe was a relatively modern Jet lathe.

And the bowl isn't likely to be used for anything, to be honest - there are enough imperfections in the bowl that it's probably not suited for making anything - after all, this was literally the first project I've ever made on a lathe.

@larryosterman neat! Lathes look cool. I got a brief lesson on a hand-powered one once (historical recreation, not power tool) and quite enjoyed it, but I don't know anybody local who has one.
@cellio we're fortunate that the Pratt Center has a huge selection of classes. Woodworking, pottery, glassblowing, blacksmithing, etc. It's incredibly cool
