Okay, something has definitely changed with Twitter’s algorithms. I clicked two ridiculous posts on separate topics (one was a person ranting about the new Harry and Meghan doc), and now I have about a dozen recommended Tweets at the top of my TL from people I don’t follow on the exact same outraged topics
This is annoying because, I mean, we all love a good hate click on a bad Tweet once in awhile, but not if it risks being inundated by more of that same bad opinion for the rest of the day
@Doubleemmartin this is why I use Tweetbot instead of the twitter app. I see only tweets from those I’ve followed, and neither promoted or sponsored tweets appear

@krst @Doubleemmartin

Sounds pretty familiar to me, but perhaps the algorithm kicks in more aggressively from time to time depending on the topic, the timing, and my own habits.

@runsm0oth @Doubleemmartin this sort of thing happens in a lot of systems where your contributions are scanned, but usually it’s for ads

@krst @Doubleemmartin

When I think about the bot farms working in coordination with the ads, that’s when I want to know is it one force or many active forces. Are they complimentary or in opposition. Things I think about on the couch 😹

@runsm0oth @krst It’s never been this dramatic for me, at all.
@Doubleemmartin @runsm0oth they’re likely exploring the envelope of possibilities with the algorithm in these early days, and that would generate lots of chaos
