How I always make rice:

Suppose n is the number of people to cook for.

Take n dl of rice, rince and let soak for at least 30 min.
Drain for at least 15 minutes.
Bring to a boil in n/2 cups of water (yes imperial cups) and stir once.
Lower heat to the minimum allowed by your stow and let simmer for 10 minutes.
Turn off heat, and let rest for 10 minutes before fluffing it slightly with a wooden ladle.

This works well for basmati style rice AND japanese style (sushi rice).

How do you make rice?

@micke häller upp i kastrull efter känsla, fyller på med vatten så att det täcker, kokar tills mjukt, silar av #sosueme
@laxsill BLOCK!
@laxsill har du fått barn föresten? Grattis!
Ja, en helt otrolig unge, här hemma med honom nu (och i vår) 🙂 Tack!
Respectfully, du har helt rätt, men jag orkar inte ändra mig.
@micke
X dl rice per person
Rince thoroughly (never plan for the time to let it soak in water)
Put it in a pot with (X multiplied by 1.5) dl of water
Bring to boil, then lower to a very light boil. When water level is below the rice, lower the heat more. Turn the heat of after a little while and let it rest until you're going to eat.
@micke I use the formula 1.2n deciliters of water and have no intention of either changing or trying to figure out if this i equivalent to your method

@frida @micke same. In i plastic rice cooker in the microwave. Mostly jasmine rice.

Rinse well. Then just cook it.

@Krux_22 @frida 1 cup is about 2.8 dl I believe. I used to do 1.2n dl, but find it convenient to use 1/2n cups as I also have imperial measurements on the same measuting cup as I measure the rice in. Seems to me 0.2n dl more water makes no real difference. Interesting to see that some people seem to use even more water.
@micke @frida it doesn’t matter. 1:1.2 volume ratio rice to water. It does make a difference in my experience. More and it gets mushy, less and it’s hard. Dry. This is jasmine rice, in a rice cooker.
@micke @Krux_22 weeeelll I would argue that for n >= 4 it would make a difference but hey, to each their own (rice cooking algorith)
@micke ca. 1.6 dl of Rice/serving into the bowl of a rice cooker, rinse and then add an equal part water into the rice. Then into the rice cooker and cooked using the appropriate setting. Absolutely foolproof and frees me up to make other dishes.
@micke rinse the rice, put it in the rice cooker, fill water up to rice + first joint on index finger, select programme depending on how much time I have. The best programme soaks and does several heat cycles and takes around an hour, the quick cook takes 35-40 mins. If I need speed then I boil water in the tea kettle and pour over rice and let it sit on low heat for about 15 minutes.
@micke I make rice the same way I make spaghetti. Pot with a lot of water, add salt, add rice and bring to boil. Then turn down heat and simmer until the rice is done (time depends on type of rice) then pour into a drainer.
