Thanks for speaking up. I saw the dogpile on #SethAbramson yesterday. I fretted about it because it seemed scary unfair, to me. I gathered a bit of courage to speak up but now, I can’t find that discussion thread. Just going to post here & hope I don’t get attacked for it. To the dogpilers, please, don’t make me regret this. 1/3
For years, Abramson’s curatorial journalism rose above the “flood of $h!+” mainstream media would not even attempt to sort out in any meaningful way. Some people made fun of him then, too. Now, half a decade late & half a democracy short, Seth’s work defending democracy is recognized by hundreds of thousands of people as sound, while mainstream media is still drowning in the flood. 2/3
I quit Twitter & won’t join Post, so I don’t know Seth’s side of this mess. I did see his “harrowing” headline, wondered, “What’s up with that?” & still, I choose to take my chances on Mastodon but obviously, something’s gone wrong. I don’t know what but I’m confident Seth will get to the bottom of it. I’ll hold my judgement on the matter till then. Again asking nicely, please, don’t attack me for saying so. 3/3
@wren I just noticed today about Seth's ban and Jim's hidden account. Yesterday was too much for me with the massive hate hit against #EltonJohn.
It's imperative to recognize those doing important work and take care of them beyond our personal preferences.
I won't join Post-chan either; not interested in #andreessen' stuff so far.
Yes, thank-you. I agree. I am trying to be braver. Admittedly, I would prefer Seth be here to defend himself. I know he would do much better than I am able but since he is not here to defend himself, and since much of the “discussion” seemed, unnecessarily, dogpile-y, to me, both outright & in undertones with no real focus on WHY? Seth was suspended, or banned.
Seems there should be more curiosity about that rather than attacks on his character.
I am not familiar with #JimStewartson 's work. I will check it out.
#EltonJohn has always been brave but yeah, this massive hate hit is brutal. Painful to witness all this hate. None of this should ever have happened.
