@cobalt123 My high school newspaper got a tip that Merle had to stop overnight due to an ice storm at the local Holiday Inn, from the hotel manager. We got there and they rang his room. He was a bit grumpy, as he’d only slept a couple of hours, but agreed to meet us in the coffee shop, if we’d give him 30 minutes to shower and get ready. He wasn’t happy about it but was very polite to us kids who didn’t really know anything about him
