Plain and honest, the situation east of Bakhmut is bad at this moment. There are many losses, and Russian forces have advanced somewhat. All can be reversed, but Bakhmut is absolute hell.
The fights are ongoing for 12 hours straight already. Russia is going all-in.

@noelreports it has been going on fierce fighting since summer, must have costed many many thousands of russian lives. What is the great importance of Bachmut? Why waste so much resources at this specific point?
I have not found a good answer for that, just speculations.
I can't see the strategic value.
