Really gobsmacked by the RPi social media presence. First with not taking small business makers seriously, and now (apparently) promoting raspberry pi for secret surveillance projects and blocking anyone that expresses concern.

I mean, wtf?

@oskay you aren’t alone. :-/
@smitty @oskay Baffling. Were they like this on twitter?
@oskay @Stoneymonster I didn’t follow them there. @kwf made it sound like they’ve done this before, but I don’t know in what context.

@smitty @oskay @Stoneymonster @kwf

There were questionable actions by them on here before too.

Plus we did warn them about this behavioural pattern not ending well several days ago...

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] That's what upset me too - why the need to add insult to injury? And I have seen this patronising pattern several times over the last few days: - telling me that politely asking to consider a CW for meat on a tech account is a *little* too far - replying to @[email protected]'s concerns about Spotify supporting Joe Rogan "Welcome to the internet" Maybe this kind of attitude is normal on the *other* site, but I doubt it is going down too well here...

@axwax @smitty @oskay @kwf Far be it from me to give brand management advice, but maybe they should think about what kind of company they want to be (or appear to be).
@axwax @smitty @Stoneymonster @kwf And then there was the thing before that about maker businesses being a joke to them....
Narrator voice: Things were not going really great.
@oskay It's the new Rasperry Spy 😎
@oskay This is all so very weird. Way to destroy a good reputation in double quick time.
@oskay I clicked through expecting to see it was a troll, but no it verified a profile link to raspberrypi.com. Was very surprised by that, especially scrolling through the rest of their posts.
@mwalling Yeah, it's really quite surprising on a number of levels.
@oskay From what I've seen, they were showcasing one of their staff who used to work for the police; there's nothing whatsoever wrong with or unusual about that, but they've been dogpiled by anti-police replies and outright abuse. It's understandable that they're blocking people.
@hughster I see you haven't been paying attention.
@oskay What have I missed?
@oskay I've serious problems with the RPi community. Really very good Masters students posting sensible questions to their forums get very school-mamish replies along the lines of "why would you want to do that?" When the same students reply to other questions which had received such answers it's treated like an act of aggression. That and overheating issues which plague lab work, and their breaking of the comdi interface make me prefer other SBCs these days :(
@njb I haven't interacted with them much, but it's not surprising to me. A lot of tech forums tend to get this way after time. I remember the "AVR freaks" forum being the most toxic hell I ever visited, for example.
