Hey, Superdry and Scotch & Soda. We're in an energy crisis, and the climate crisis hasn't gone away yet either. What about closing your giant shop doors, like many others do? It's 3⁰C outside and you're wasting energy.
(Utrecht, the Netherlands, just now)
Many shops still leave their doors wide open, despite the energy crisis. Nu.nl checked 600 shops in 10 Dutch cities, and 60% are still keeping their doors open, wasting natural gas and fanning climate change.

Veel winkels laten deuren wagenwijd open ondanks energiecrisis

Ondanks de energiecrisis houden veel winkels hun deuren de hele dag open. Slechts een minderheid sluit de deur om de warmte binnen te houden en te besparen op de stookkosten, blijkt uit onderzoek van NU.nl.

@Sustainable2050 I lived in San Antonio Texas where it was common for stores to have doors open with A/C on during 100 degree F weather. I laugh when people say we “need” the same amount of energy that we have been using. Same with the size of cars - we “need” this amount of oil or batteries because that’s what we are currently using.
@Sustainable2050 I was looking at a Visual Capitalist poster yesterday and noting the highest energy prices were Netherlands and Denmark.
@Sustainable2050 One door of two closed and a blower with an 'air curtain' (warm air from an overhead fan thing) is a thing here in NL as well. It's probably a bit better than 'stoken voor de vogeltjes' 🙄
@Sustainable2050 But Putin needs the income so he can kill more Ukranians.

@Sustainable2050

That's so unethical VC & hedge funded solar farm installation companies can dodge environmentsl laws and make more profit by carpeting huge tracts of land.

Surrounding houses that cannot get a grid connection with solar farms for city dwellers.

It's disgusting.

@Sustainable2050 I applaud your campaign but I'm a bit shocked it's needed. It's years since I've seen a shop door open to the outside [¹] in the UK. Normally you'd expect the Netherlands to be ahead of the UK on this sort of thing, but …

[¹] As opposed to open to the inside of a mall.

@edavies 60% open in Dutch cities, and retail association InRetail is satisfied with that: "It's already quite an improvement"...
