Matt Kelly asked me to explain Americans and free speech to his readers at @TheNewEuropean. I debunk the contention that Elon Musk is a free-speech absolutist and examine where the US and Europe split on speech:

We, the tweeters

What does Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter really have to do with our 21st-century complex over free speech?

This is why I call them Liberty Deniers.

They seek to deny others liberty.

My political adversaries seem to be good at coining phrase, but it’s time for someone on my side to shift that one of these days. ..welp There’s a term I’ve heard bandied about, “free speech absolutist” which somehow doesn’t roll right on my tongue. And they don’t actually want #FreeSpeech if it criticizes their bunghole views, more so if they use a nym or are from the news. And I see these sad criers, and it hits me. They are #LibertyDeniers.

@jeffjarvis The picture I see is a lot bleaker. Elon's #TwitterTakeover is one step in a coherent strategy to bring the culture war, already in full bloom in the U.S., to a global stage, particularly the European "theater" of the culture war. The billionaires sense that something very righteous is already or soon coming their way, and they can't let that happen. That's why they´re swooping down on "woke" like bald eagles on prey.
@jeffjarvis Free 'speech that I agree with.'
@jeffjarvis Excellent article. Thanks for sharing.
@jeffjarvis I just got my copy in the letterbox and will be reading it soon.
@jeffjarvis Elon is a free speech for fascists absolutist. Other points of view, not so much.
