I believe the reason they're absolutely stunning is the #order and #disorder combination.

#Animal systems, at the same scale, tend to maybe a little more disorder in general, but then are mindblowing in the way they can preserve the order they have throughout very large movements and deformations.

@nervous_jessica I love these! I doodle this kind of design during boring meetings. This inspires me to change colors instead of just black pen. I think I’ll finally order that microscope off my own wishlist, too! Thanks for the excellent alt text.

right? Some of my lace has bits that look kind of like this, so it makes me feel like it should be possible.
