@badger0us Right on, Badger! Someone with historical perspective can validate this thought for me that corporate America has never masked price increases via inflation as these companies have raised so much and so greedy today.
ParlInfo - PRICES JUSTIFICATION TRIBUNAL : Discussion of Matter of Public Importance

Search engine for Australian parliamentary documents and media.

@badger0us I just assumed this was about grocery stores in Canada.

(Their CEOs were just made to appear in front of Parliament to discuss this very issue. Record profits, and yet prices keep going up)

@shawnhooper What was the outcome, a token fine? (aka 'bribe')

@badger0us I haven't followed up. One of the beautiful things about spending more time on Mastodon than the other site, I'm seeing less news.

I'd be shocked if it actually led to change.

@badger0us Image description (1 of 2):
A 6-panel comic. A corporate manager speaks to his boss. They both wear drab grey suits.
1. "Good news sir! We're raising prices across the board!"
2. "But we're already recording record profit—why raise prices?"
3. "Because the news are reporting about inflation, giving us a smoke screen to raise prices for no reason other than to buy more yachts!"
4. "Aren't ppl going to see through that?"

@badger0us Image description (2 of 2):
5. The manager shrugs his shoulders and raises his arms bent at the elbow, palms up, as he smiles. "Pfft, what are they going to do? Make a comic about this exact conversation and share it around?"
6. Both characters come to an uncomfortable realization and break the 4th wall to stare directly at the reader.

@herzleid This is amazing, thank you!
@badger0us My immediate thought whenever a major corporation announces a raise in prices (say 10%). Does that mean a 10% increase in wages for employees as well? I know the answer.
@badger0us what’s happening in Canada rn >_>’ I’m a student all I want is to eat food, please…
@badger0us People will sometimes argue that prices should go up as much as possible because that's how the invisible hand works. These people also happen to believe in fairy tales.
@badger0us We can always look at their profits. WE SEE YOU
