You know what I've recently gone back to playing? #TheLegendOfZelda 3: A Link to the Past - in this case, the excellent #GameBoyAdvance port by Capcom circa around 2003.

I'm playing on my Revo K101 (a GBA hardware clone with a brighter, backlit screen), which is always my go-to for GBA games and will be until I get my sweaty mitts on an Analogue Pocket, I suspect.

I really don't get to play set-top console games any more. Handheld for a few minutes at a time is all parenting allows.

It's made me realise that as much as I'd love to pick up a #PS5 or #XboxSeries console, it's pointless. My shelves are full of #PS4 and #XboxOne games that are still unopened, because my daughter demands all of my time. Such a waste of money (like time, also in short supply!) to spend £450+ on something that won't get played for years. My next console is very likely to be a Steam Deck, which at least can be played on a sofa whilst the kid plays.
Mind you, she's almost at the age where we can game together. Until recently she's not had the coordination to move a joystick and press buttons at the same time (I suspect that, like me, she has dyspraxia) but she switched on my home arcade machine the other day and started playing #Galaga, all by herself. She can now move and shoot at the same time!
@thewarllama for mine we had some of the VTech kids consoles for a bit but actually my Son’s first gaming experience was when he was about 5 and wanted to play Lego Star Wars on PS2. We did it co-op and I did the “annoying jumpy bits”
@thewarllama I had that stage. For me it was from wii-switch. What I also found was that I went back to PC gaming because I can’t really monopolise the TV with a console. I have the Metroid prime trilogy on the wii and have played it about 3 times because it was either waiting for everyone to go to bed or go out.
@PieMan70 I recently picked up and replayed Portal and Portal 2 for the Switch for similar reasons. I miss being alone and immersed.
@thewarllama I run between something that is almost mental chewing gum (star trek online) or getting properly into things. Have to watch when I pick something that will draw me in. Playing something that I get drawn into can suddenly have me looking up and it is 2am, not great on a school night
