@ben Kinda off-topic, but the Telecommunications Act of 1996 is what happened to local news. It's what got rid of the regulations which limited how many local media outlets one company could own. This led to local newspapers as well as radio and television stations all being bought up by these singular nationwide companies, which then wreaked havoc on everything from journalism to the music industry. But at least a few horrible people got incredibly rich.
