Dear reporters, news people, etc.,

The reason you're not getting any reach on Masto is because you need to interact. You just come here, post your news article, and don't engage with the community.

You will never get reach if you don't interact with people. This is not Twitter. This is not Facebook. If you want this platform to work for you, you have to become a part of the community, not just shout at us and leave. Forget everything you learned in the walled corporate digital gardens.

@mrvapor @jeffjarvis I fundamentally disagree with this. The reason is that there just aren't a lot of "news junkies" on Mastodon to interact with them. That's it. Mastodon users are more focused on the latest Arch distro, anarchism, and pixel art.

"This is not Twitter and this is not Facebook" is just an observation about the current demographic of the Fediverse, not about any intrinsic difference between the mechanisms of interaction.

@jsit @mrvapor @jeffjarvis I disagree; I am personally not interested in any of those examples. I certainly do not expect, nor want, anything birdlike in terms of one-sided verbal discharge, but I do appreciate news - world news- and other current-focused info.
