I saw a screenshot of a Mastodon app for iOS called Mammoth and it puts back the focus on follower, comments, likes and retoot counts that it basically tries to be a Twitter clone.

The fact that it also includes a feature to screenshot other toots to toot about them is just... just... horrible.

It just seems to go against everything that is Mastodon.

@hvangalen I do think that it should be easy to link to toots so that you can do you’re own post referring that OG toot but making mastodon like twitter defeats the point
@kennethwilsonuk Exactly. The screenshotting of toots smells too much like that sneaky behind-ones-back quoting that made that other place so horrible.
@hvangalen yeah, like OG twitter mastodon UI needs work and it will happen but trying to morph one service into another is folly, especially as mastodon doesn’t work that way!
@hvangalen im using Metatext on iOS, feels a lot like Twitter this way, which is handy because this sort of changes to favour friends who switch platforms make me feel autistic where I don’t like changes..
Like having to work with Windows at work

@pochenk Sure and I get that, I understand Metatext is a decent client.

But that Mammoth app is putting follower counts prominently present in a large font on the profile page, and favourite and boost counts on each toot on timelines.

The commercial social media has led us to believe those are important metrics but it's an addiction people should kick and apps like Mammoth that decide to show them are placing that ugly monkey back on people's backs. IMHO. :)
