DBCI just joined within the last 24 hours. Is clicking on the "star" (Favourite) the same as clicking on the "like" button on Facebook and the "heart" button on Twitter? Thanks.

Yes, in that it tells the author you liked it.
No, in that there isn't an algorithm that will push a well liked post into more people's faces.
Star tells someone you liked the post.
Boost tells your followers that you want them to see it.
Nothing more, nothing less.
