@erictopol What portion of those were patients whose diabetes was undiagnosed before they got COVID? This other study found that over 34% of people hospitalized for COVID19 who had diabetes heard about the diagnosis for the first time (that's 8.7% of all the hospitalized patients who were newly diagnosed with diabetes).

@AskPippa @erictopol I guess to answer your question we can compare the incidence of newly diagnosed DM in influenza patients in 2018-2019 to newly dx DM pts with Covid in 2020-2021. The variant might matter. I’ve seen some pretty fast progression of DM in young people post Covid. Struck me as weird.
