These are the Biden holiday decorations, just unveiled by our first lady, Dr. Jill Biden.
My first thought was, “What, no blood red scary trees, symbolizing the blood of our enemies?!”
It’s sure nice to have normal back. In so many ways.

@georgetakei very wholesome, but it makes me uncomfortable.

The White House belongs to all Americans, not just Christians. Whether or not the Bidens celebrate Christmas, the White House should have decorations year round to mark everyone else’s traditions and those should get equal fanfare.

Official Christmas decor without non-Christian representation promotes the dangerous notion that this is a Christian nation.

@taephoenix @georgetakei

While the modern Christmas Tree is associated with Christianity, there's no religious justification for it - bringing evergreens into the house over winter was a pagan tradition, while German Christians were allegedly the first to start decorating them. The trend didn't really take off more widely until a German called Albert introduced the custom to his English wife, Victoria...

@mittfh @georgetakei

Evergreens, sure. Celebrate the solstice with some pretty branches.

The tree?

Jews don't put those up unless we're part of an interfaith family. Otherwise we get the side eye from fellow Jews.

Muslims don't either.

Know who does? Christians.

It's been co-opted, but it's a Christian religious symbol and putting one in The People's House is playing favorites.

We're a secular society, not a Christian nation.
