This is an extremely important Twitter thread, and something I've been railing about for years. The Twitter files thing, like so many "things" before it, is a nothing burger, but in the current climate THAT DOESN'T MATTER. I co-wrote this Washington Post piece in 2018 about the right wing adoption of a completely factually incorrect meme. Same deal. Doesn't matter if it's demonstrably false: they've essentially created a fake historical "fact." https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/made-by-history/wp/2018/03/15/how-social-media-spread-a-historical-lie/

@jmendelsohn one thing about the Twitter files nothingburger that struck me:
- the idea that free speech enforcement applies to public companies. Clearly, even current Twitter’s owner only cares about free speech that doesn’t offend him.
The only free speech people have at Twitter is to leave the platform if they don’t like it. Yet it’s in the Twitter files thread as if it’s a freedom we’re all entitled to and we should expect it.
