@Dahlialith I have no clue really, by and large if you aren't handing them money they aren't doing a great job of profiting, so we don't have to feel bad on that front I guess?
I'm still trying to cling too it for as long as possible to ensure I can take good connections with me as they settle into masto/cohost/etc.
@Dahlialith Lock your account and walk away. You've locked down your handle so no one else can use it. And should birdsite miraculously become a viable place -- very unlikely but not impossible -- you could return.
Meantime, you've turned off the lights, locked the door, and walked away.
@Dahlialith @aelman I'm still there ONLY because the news
accounts are. I get so much of my info from them. I wish they'd all migrate here, but as you said, smaller audience. But if they move, then the audience grows.
I hope they all don't go to Post. Not my cup o' tea.
@GottaLaff @Dahlialith
@aelman
Yes! This news junkie needs to see all that breaking news moving to alternative sites before I sign off
@Dahlialith Musk's running a Hunter Biden's laptop expose tonight and Andy "Concrete Milkshake" Ngo is handing out bans.
It's done and cooked, sadly, time to go.
Thanks. I saw @DavidCorn’s post (and boosted it) but wasn’t aware of the backstory.
@Dahlialith Lol, look what you unleashed, Dahlia.
There are other factors: That site started me on a new career as a political commentator. I was asked by 2 radio hosts to be a regular, which I double-taked (double-took?) and realized then how powerful a place it was. How sad that I now want to leave the place that gave me such amazing gifts.
It also allowed me to talk to people like you!
+ I made real life friends, like @rabbijill and others.
So it's tough to leave.
@Dahlialith I'm not sure what the answer to that is; but I *would* suggest that actually deleting your account there (and potentially making the handle available for someone else to snatch up) seems like a bad idea.
Nail some plywood over the windows and move out, but don't leave the land empty. Leave the house there and keep a set of keys in case the neighborhood becomes livable again sometime later.
@Dahlialith There are lots of discussions here about best practices for moving – I think the hashtags #LeavingTwitter and #twexit should find those discussions and in them some handy checklists for leaving your account on the other site in the least troublesome state.
Seems to involve locking some things down, and definitely a bio link and pinned tweet providing a pointer to your account here.
