I'd completely forgotten I was identifying as an anarcha-feminist for a while years ago until I came across an old bio recently. I think I stopped because the specificity kind of bothered me, same way I was IDing as bi for a while before that felt too confining and I went back to queer?

But the current anti-feminist backlash is REALLY making me want to very clearly lead with "I'm a feminist (and not the liberal type)" in a lot more contexts.

@idzie
I've probably not paid enough attention, but are you referring to anti-feminist sentiments in leftist spaces? I had thought people here would be all in on that shit given what Mexican anarcha-feminists have been up to and the firebombing of anti-abortion offices. Are people being overbroad in their condemnation of white liberal feminism and just circling back to reactionary talking points?

@Helmic I think the backlash exists both in the mainstream and leftist and anarchist spaces. You would think that, wouldn't you, and instead there's a bunch of manarchists that sound like gamer-gaters.

I'm inclined to think it's less about accidentally making too broad a condemnation of white liberal feminism, and more that a claim that's what their problem is is used as a screen for their existing misogynistic and anti-feminist views. @RiotLinguistics has a way better handle on where it's coming from than I do though!

@Helmic @idzie i'm currently way too pissed off to speak in very civil or careful terms about it tbh. i want to burn a motherfucker

@RiotLinguistics @idzie Nah, it's good to be pissed. I'm more predisposed to see it happen with ableism where very woke-sounding language gets used to justify ableist abuse, but I definitely see people appropriating the "Karen" thing to excuse themselves from the anarchist obligation to be a feminist or otherwise present the langauge of feminism as itself inherently liberal and therefore free to be dismissed, or the seeming return of "abolitionist" feminism WRT sex work against the wishes of sex workers (or hustlers or whatever language being used since even that term gets pushed back on as prescriptivist).

I had spent a lot of time in "left unity" spaces and definitely saw a sectarian line on this, with ML's frequently calling anarcha-feminists actions "ops" in order to dismiss them out of hand, which is fucking infuriating when they're *literally* venting fascist heads with actual bullets and setting fire to the infrastructure of bigots, not in some metaphorical sense but actually doing the sort of revolutionary violence that gets valorized when men do it. Like fucking hell it feels like whenever someone actually *does something* these people turn into fucking snitchass cowards that want nothing more than to throw radicals risking their lives under the bus so that they don't have to become genuinely uncomfortable and deal with increased scrutiny from the feds. Like what's the point of avoiding the attention of feds if you fuckers won't ever leave your fucking armchairs anyways?
