One thing should not be too controversial, correct me if I'm wrong.

The mantra that #Kanye is #mentallyill minimizes people with psychiatric challenges and does not excuse the fact that he is a pompous ass who got lucky in the #capitallism lottery and has a malicious personality.

Peeps( #Vaush) speculating that he 'needs lithium' or 'antipsychotics' don't know what they are talking about. #physicians won't lightly diagnose remotely nor should #pundits.

Cured, he'd still be a jerk.

@theghostoftomjoad

Yup. The same logic can be applied to other offenders.

Calling racist or violent outbursts the result of mental illnesses helps reinforce the negative stigma.

Fact is, most people suffering from mental illness aren't violent racists!

It also reduces the agency of the racists in the worst way, by excusing their actions, and letting them avoid taking any responsibility.

@transitory

I'd love to see the vanguard of intellectuals here dissect the connection of MI-labelling with the NRA/GQP attempt to shift gun rights dialoge to "mental health".

Not opposing to 2A rights (eg for out-groups).

@theghostoftomjoad suggesting mental illness makes someone a piece of shit is wildly ableist. a lot of good people with bipolar are not going to go around announcing they are a Nazi and spew antisemitism. He is just an ass

So no disagreement here

@theghostoftomjoad stopping you're prescribed medicine because your doctor is Jewish is completely different from saying you should take a bunch of drugs because you're being publically weird
