I was feeling hopeful in August of 2016 when I drove along the Gulf Coast from Pensacola to Apalachicola with an old high school friend and we only saw one house with a diaper don sign

A few weeks later, I was recalling Kellyanne Conway's half correct belief that many trump supporters were too embarrassed to out themselves even to pollsters & we'd be seeing a landslide victory for the orange traitor

A shyness they got clearly got over

I don't think DeSantis will generate the same level of weird fandom that the orange clown did/does

I've often wondered how many people in the hinterlands when to don's rallies simply because they wanted to see a TV star

We have an extremely unhealthy obsession with celebrity in this country
