Leonard Cheshire has had to serve eviction notices on 11 residents after their councils refused to increase the amount paid to LC in line with inflation and actual costs.
As LC point out, the central govt really needs to fund #SocialCare properly.

Major care charity evicts disabled residents because of ‘chronic underfunding’

Leonard Cheshire says councils are failing to increase contracts in line with inflation

@StefBenstead I'm not sure I buy this line from Leonard Cheshire tbh.

It's not simply about LAs failing to provide real costs (altho that I don't doubt at all) but that is also about LC failing to negotiate effectively with commissioners.

It is also about them running hugely expensive housing stock and providing utterly degrading and inhumane care in some of their homes, such as this one that warehouses over 30ppl https://api.cqc.org.uk/public/v1/reports/9b831bba-6d61-4367-8f81-4ef912dad172?20220218130000

#socialcare #CQCinadequate

@GeorgeJulian I don't know about the costs of the housing stock, but I can well imagine that conditions aren't good enough.
But the article did suggest that LC was able to negotiate with most councils; only a handful refused.
@GeorgeJulian perhaps it is just an excuse, and LC may not provide good enough care or may use outdated assumptions about what people need or can handle. But it is true that central govt doesn't pay enough for social care.

@StefBenstead I question why charities are providing care at all, if it is not to set an example and be outstanding.

I completely agree #socialcare isn't adequately funded.

I also question why #charities are courting the media with stories about the supposed social care crisis, without addressing their own failings first.

LC have had no care rated outstanding in last two years, but several homes rated #CQCinadequate.
