Left-Wing Voices Are Silenced on Twitter as Far-Right Trolls Advise Elon Musk

Elon Musk appears to have outsourced decisions about who to ban from Twitter to the platform’s right-wing extremists, like Andy Ngo.

The Intercept
@chadloder i saw that he banned you after asking about the hack - really fucked up.

@chadloder yes, it's a farce. I have three more days of ban for "hateful conduct" for calling out someone hyping for warcrimes

I made an appeal which was rejected. I bet andy is reviewing those appeals, or a team picked by him. I expect to be banned again soon after but no matter, as long as I have time to change my username to mastodon username we will be golden. Apartheid clyde can fuck right off with his creepy far right pals

@chadloder @antifantti I was locked out for one week for calling out US war crimes.
Got my data out and closed the account on day 3

@chadloder i got perma banned for minor insults basically

the other person was incredibly racist and nothing happend to them

@chadloder

@chadloder free speech absolutism in action!
@chadloder Mr Unfree Speech Absolutist showing exactly what many of us have been saying about the far right's real intent when they claim to be the champions of free speech. They just want the freedom to lie, harass, threat and silence those they don't like
@aristeon @chadloder What Musk is implementing and what free speech supporters want are not the same thing. Sure, free speech has negative aspects, but it also gives you the ability to dispute and disprove what people are saying. Without free speech, you may or may not have that option.
@0x4E4448 @chadloder free speech means expressing your views, not using speech to commit crimes. A mafia boss plotting a murder is not free speech.
@aristeon @chadloder Technically, no, that’s free speech. It’s the call to action. If someone said they were going to kill someone else but they don’t actually have the ability to do so and they make no attempt to do so, that’s not a crime. It’s the fire in a crowded theater argument. You can tell fire in a crowded theater if there is a fire or if, in context, it’s known not to be an emergency, but if you yell fire with the intent of causing panic, that’s illegal.
@0x4E4448 @chadloder and that applies to the far right. Other cases include harassment and threats. If you call someone and threaten them it's a crime. If a teacher harasses a student the teacher can be fired. If a hotel guest harasses other guests they can be kicked out. Social media speech policies against harassment, threats and conspiracy are reasonable.
@aristeon @chadloder again, read what I said. Those wouldn’t all be illegal as you stated them. More context would be necessary.
@aristeon @chadloder Part of the issue is that people are so easily offended. I can say one thing completely innocently and simply because someone else perceives it a different way, it can result in people getting banned or punished. It’s happened to me when simply discussing a very similar topic.
@0x4E4448 @chadloder you're conflating different issues. A person getting offended has nothing to do with social media rules. People can ignore you if they don't like you.
@aristeon @chadloder No it’s not. I literally got banned from a social media platform because I was having a discussion about how Mastodon is leftist. @stux said it’s perceived that way because they don’t tolerate bullying. I said if someone says there are two genders, someone else may perceive that as bullying. I was immediately banned for transphobia despite having made no argument either direction and simply using it as an example.
@0x4E4448 @chadloder @stux that's not what I'm talking about. We can't have a discussion if you keep talking about something else. I'm talking about rules regarding harassment, threats, racism, violence and other very specific things such as paedophilia. I got banned too because I called Tomi Lahren a Nazi and I do criticize social media for being arbitrary, but one issue are the rules and another issue is whether they implement their own rules properly.
@aristeon @chadloder I was also told I could try to walk it back to get unbanned, but how do you walk back something you never never did?
@chadloder Well this was an obvious outcome
@chadloder I'm just Little me but my account was permanently suspended when I made my icon a pic of Elon before hair transplants. He's very sensitive.
@chadloder
Good. Twitter will die even faster this way.
@chadloder Article has a number of Mastadon accounts to follow. :-)
@chadloder
That is certainly how it appears. Since you were suspended, you are an asset and I am glad you are on Mastodon now!
@chadloder But my problem with that, your also quoting a leftist news article. As the Intercept has made oppressive articles towards free speech.
@blazepog Do you have specific factual rebuttals or would you like to continue to talk nonsense?
@chadloder Have you gotten information from other news sources or are you relying on one article? Or perhaps analyzed the threats for removal off the App Store from Apple. Who is a company known to be an oppressive tech tyrant like Microsoft was in the 90’s.
@blazepog Thanks for answering my question. Go sealion elsewhere.
@chadloder Did you download your Twitter archive so you can re-upload all the archived evidence of far-right violence somewhere else? Or is all that reporting just gone for good?
@petersterne I regularly downloaded my archive over the years
@chadloder I'm having trouble seeing a path forward where it doesn't get continually worse over there.
@chadloder heh 100% this. My account got locked this morning for hateful conduct but no posts were highlited and I was not given a chance to appeal or remove .
