Some people around the world are surprised at the unprecedented #ChinaProtests, having bought into an idea – one echoed by Chinese government policy – of a “social contract” in which people in China have somehow agreed to have their rights suppressed in exchange for economic growth.

But what if this idea is wrong?

Just wondering if you tried to update your profile at the top of that hrw.org page to include a mastodon link, since there is a link there promoting a birdish social network that has amplified the #RohingyaGenocide and quite likely the #TigrayGenocide ... Might require the sysadmins to modify the code for the system generating the web page, so they'll probably grumble :) but in reality it shouldn't be difficult.
