I have direct confirmation of at least three people, now, discovering that their dead outlets and their light switches which don't do anything are in fact connected.

I don't know how this knowledge got lost, but I'll be damned if we don't get it back!

@TechConnectify I have no dead outlets, but I do have a light switch that I've never figured out what it does.

@arktronic A home isn't complete unless there's a mystery light switch and/or a switch in a really stupid location!

However, it's possible somebody with irrational hatred of switched outlets linked the two together in whatever box or boxes that switch goes to. It's a pain to track down but that could explain it.

@TechConnectify @arktronic I have the distinction of once buying a replacement dishwasher due to a mystery light switch that controlled power to its hidden outlet.
@unwiredben @TechConnectify @arktronic I have an outlet under my sink controlled by a light switch on the wall just above. I was told it's for controlling a garbage disposal should I wish to install one someday

@Mel @unwiredben @arktronic Yep, that's almost certainly what it's for.

I've never really understood the point of a garbage disposal. If I cooked from scratch more I might like it but there's always composting. Usually feels... excessive to me.

@TechConnectify @Mel @unwiredben @arktronic I find it useful in my apartment where I don't exactly have space or location to compost but. If I had that space I definitely wouldn't use it basically at all. I don't use it often as it is.
