Ok, so it seems that either the book, or the timing, or the way people want to practice their presence here hasn't created the momentum for something like the #BookReadings experiment on #TheShockOfTheAnthropocene to really work, engage or take off.

Since this might not have sparked joy, was just wondering: Any interest in further trials? Any comments or suggestions in how to approach this?

After a public consultation, the people have spoken ;-) it seems there's people still interested in continuing the experiment to find ways to asynchronously read #TheShockOfTheAnthropocene with a longer time window, until February 28th.

If anyone has ideas or suggestions on how to frame the reading better (say, focusing on a certain chapter, bringing up an example to make it more relevant, etc.) please share!

Don't forget to use the hashtag so we can coordinate!

@tscriado That's excellent! I was too tired to reply last night when I saw your post but had the same problem as the others: I'm interested but had problems to find the time for reading this among the other things I'm reading. With this longer time frame, I'm on board!
@evemassacre Lovely! Happy to also have you on board
@tscriado I grabbed a copy of this and would've liked to participate, but frankly I've been way too busy so far with my pre-Xmas rush. Like a lot of book clubs, a more patient, longer timeframe (eg a month), or recruiting a core group of participants who understand their commitments would go better …

@attentive thanks, Tom! I thought there was a group of people who expressed interest, but no one reached out to say that maybe the time should be longer. If it was late February, would you still be interested? I have no interest in rushing this, it'd be great to find the right approach to properly try out

Re commitments: what do you mean, structuring the task more? By chapters or groups, or creating specific time frames where people could react? Ideas?

@tscriado Firstly, best to take anything I say with a grain of salt (and not organise around me)

I've been snowed under lately so anything I haven't affirmatively committed to has tended to go by the wayside.

Sometimes participatory activities go perversely easier with more stringent discipline, but I offer that as food for thought. There's a lot of ways to go.

I would probably be up for the mentioned late Feb timeline by the way

@attentive All good! Yes, then we can reschedule a longer time-window, it's also rather difficult in an asynchronous format to understand who might take part, how and when. Let's keep it open then, and if you had any concrete suggestions, happy to read and adjust!
@tscriado Thanks legend—keen to be involved and will keep an eye out 👏
@tscriado in my case I would have loved to participate but deadlines got in the way! It certainly wasn't for lack of enthusiasm, and I'd be very keen to take part in the future!
@mistertim hi Tim, thanks! And if the time window was until late February, would that feel less stressful?
@tscriado aha yep, for me that sounds much more manageable! This has been the trickiest thing in previous 'online reading groups' i've been part of tbh, finding a way to cope with different levels of time commitment, so i don't think it's an uncommon issue
