@itsfoss also no HDR support, shoddy sound issue from time to time, can't download and install from shop until you fix some issue with terminal, not so great sandboxing, lock screen might get unlocked by baby https://www.hackread.com/kids-breach-bypass-linux-mint-screensaver-lock/ , delayed security updates if using distro repo(not with flat or snap) etc etc. I am using Linux for 2+ yr planning to switch

@Dashtop these issues seem like they're all dependent on which distro and DE you're using
@crentagon I suggest watching this series for what it feels like 🤕

@Dashtop man doesn’t read and blames computer?
@crentagon I mean do you read Terms of Service before clicking agree?
@Dashtop no but i read warnings before running a command that bricks my system
@crentagon most people will likely not face a button that bricks their system with other OS's. If you can deal with that more power to you ;)
@Dashtop did you watch the video you sent me?
@crentagon are you meaning that I said button instead of command line? I don't think people will ever need to use terminal in other OS's (thankfully)
@Dashtop @itsfoss Well, if I listed all issues I ever had with Windows, this seems very very small. And sanboxing not so great? Do you know what Docker is? Alos bypass lockscreen, on Windows you can, to this day, just bypass everything and become SYSTEM without any skills.
@michelbarnich Mac, android has great sandboxing, no bypassing either. And it's actually a joy to use.
@Dashtop if you install the right tools, running any App in docker is just double clicking it. But whos gonna use Android as their Desktop OS?
@itsfoss "valotant does not work on it though!!1!!1!1!"
@itsfoss Touché, except that many engineering software proprietary to some companies doesn't support linux. So dual boot is the only plausible solution.
😂
@itsfoss I had hoped we were over this elitist attitude. Don't diss on potential new users - Linux still ain't easy to use properly! Keeping a distro clean and solving issues on your own can feel like going to the darn Oracle at Delphi to new users. It's OK to just want to use a PC instead of manage one. PCs and honestly -any tech including algorithms!- should explain themselves to us in easy language.

@fnord We certainly respect everyone's decision/requirements.

Memes are supposed to be harmless fun here! :)

@itsfoss That's good :) As regards to harmless fun, I try to judge it "If I made this joke to one particular user, would they be laughing too?"
@itsfoss I wish it would be that simple, trust me, if most of those people could have exactly same experience as on windows most of them would switch without a second thought. Linux is great, but still has to go a long way till it can compete on desktop PC market
@itsfoss yeah, but I think average windows user doesn’t know and care what is going on under hood.
@itsfoss This is a big reason why I plan to move over to Linux more permanently soon. But I do think moving to Linux is hard, you're missing out on a lot of 3.rd party support, and troubleshooting on Linux without a lot of experience, usually comes down to finding someone with the same issue, and copy pasting the solution(which I've on more than one occasion done, only to find a random typo..)But I do love how easy it is to find the tools you need for it, some of these are really good too.
@itsfoss oh snap! fast *and* speedy? count me in!
