Aviation related incidents are more common than one would think for electric companies. FlightAware has a solid API that you could tie into your monitoring/SOAR platforms without too much fuss.
If someone calls your Ops Center to inform on an aviation based event would your operators have any idea on where to start working it?
@ian_infosec what’s an ops center?
@fpieces electric companies generally have some sort of 24/7 operation that people can call to report stuff. Normally people call customer service but there are direct lines to many of these control rooms.
@ian_infosec 1. That’s fun to have that budget. 2. Holy crap I wish my electric company had something that was that easy. My last outage I called in. There was no reported outage in my area and the automated system hung up saying someone might be in touch.
@fpieces it’s a federal requirement if you’re operating the on transmission system which is what this one is on. Most should have 24/7 ops for distribution too.
@ian_infosec see, you turned a facetious off the cuff response into a learning experience. That’s interesting.
